EXITHAMSTER – JAPAN IS DIFFERENT.
JAPAN IS DIFFERENT
Japan to the Japanese – and a handful of tourists.
February 2020 started off with thousands of “naked” men in loincloth chasing their luck for the upcoming 12 months. A country full of courtesy, patience, respect, detail and organization in which you will be surprised day by day. Japan is probably the only place in the world where you can spend 30 minutes in a shop still not knowing if they sell cosmetics, delicacy or adult toys. Around 30 million tourists add on to the usually partly crowded atmosphere every year. Due to a pandemic numbers dropped significantly and sights became visible again. Corona at its best – evil tongues could say… This is the output of almost 3 months exploring in trains (5.271kms), on foot (250kms) and in Kaiten Sushi restaurants (63).
3.160 short-clips combined.
A festival with 10.000 barely dressed men & some police men chasing a gang member on a motorbike.
Geisha / Maiko time at the Plum Blossom Festival & hundreds of red gates.
The Glico Man is still running on the city’s most famous billboard.
The deer bows before accepting your cookies.
Atomic Bomb Dome without visitors.
Only made it to another Sushiro.
The epicenter of onsen & a bumpy wooden roller coaster.
Oasis 21 & a stroll through the city chasing smokeless tobacco.
Watching macaques taking a hot bath in an onsen during snowfall. How cliché…
The only Olympic feeling in 2020.
Spending the day amongst the snow monsters of Zao Onsen.
Bad weather crossed our way.
Daikannon – one of the tallest Buddhist statues in the world. Shiny white.
Macaques performing a show & eating mandarines while sitting on our head in a remote Japanese tavern.
300+ foxes in the Miyagi Zao Fox village. Peeing, sleeping & fighting.
A non-suicidal walk in the suicide forest while being watched by Mount Fuji.
Corona escape to an island closer to Taipeh than Tokyo.
2 weeks of vibrancy. All in.
…AND MUCH MORE – just in fast forward.
T H A N K Y O U J A P A N for being so structured and @Qatar Airways for being the only airline taking us back home during Covid19 peak season.
Another B I G sign of appreciation to Jackie who took the effort of picking the best spots, filming in various angles and last but not least editing this massive amount of footage of our 7 cameras. You did a FABULOUS job – and I don’t have to deal with a constantly crashing notebook and lack of storage!
